Gravity has been coming for a long time. It stars George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, the finalists of a long casting process that considered the talents of Robert Downey Jr., Angelina Jolie, Marion Cotillard, Natalie Portman, and Scarlett Johansson. They play an astronaut and an engineer who become stranded when a spacewalk goes terribly wrong. Alfonso Cuaron hasn't written and directed a film since 2006's Children of Men, and this teaser trailer makes me suspect that Gravity will receive similar acclaim for its cinematography. The other actress choices have left some wondering, "Why Sandra Bullock?" but I think Miss Congeniality's dramatic ability is downplayed because of her numerous comedic roles. Once scheduled for release in November 2012, Gravity finally descends onto theaters on October 4, 2013.
