What Maisie Knew tells the story of a child in the middle of a messy divorce. Both her parents spend the movie attempting to win her love and affection, but they are also too preoccupied with their own lives to pay much attention to hers. The entire cast give great performances, especially Alexander Skarsgård and the adorable Onata Aprile. The characters and the story elicit genuine emotions and have some great moments, but the overall plot just doesn't have much drive.  Perhaps it's because the movie is told from the perspective of a five year old, but its pace felt like it idled and stalled at times. There doesn't seem to be much drive to the events of this movie and at the end you're left with an unsatisfying ending. On top of this, the story seems preposterous and many of the characters just seem unbelievable. The movie isn't bad; the performances are great and there are some really touching moments, but this is not a must see movie.

Rent it.
